These Hot Honey Chicken Wings are a perfect balance of sweet, spicy, and savory flavors with a crispy exterior and tender meat inside. Tossed in a luscious hot honey butter sauce, they're ideal for game day, parties, or a flavorful weeknight meal. The wings are air-fried or oven-baked until golden and crispy, then coated in a rich, spicy-sweet glaze that adds irresistible taste and caramelization.

Ingredients

For the Chicken Wings

  • 4.5 pounds chicken wing sections
  • 2 tablespoons avocado oil
  • 1 tablespoon kosher salt (to taste)
  • 2 teaspoons onion powder
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

For the Hot Honey Butter Sauce

  • 1.5 sticks unsalted butter
  • 4 ounces hot honey sauce (homemade or storebought)
  • 2 ounces pure honey (optional and to taste)
  • Parsley, salt, pepper, red pepper flakes, and more hot honey for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare: Preheat your air fryer to 400°F or your oven to 425°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or spray your air fryer tray with non-stick spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Toss the Wings: In a large bowl, combine the chicken wing sections with avocado oil, kosher salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Toss until evenly coated.
  3. Cook the Wings: Arrange the wings in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet or air fryer tray. If baking, cook for 45-50 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown, crispy, and an internal temperature of at least 165°F is reached. If air frying, cook for 20-25 minutes with a flip at the halfway point, ensuring they are crispy and cooked through.
  4. Make the Hot Honey Butter Sauce: While the wings cook, melt the unsalted butter in a saucepan over low heat. Add the hot honey sauce and pure honey (if using). Stir frequently and let the mixture simmer gently without boiling. Adjust seasoning with salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes to taste.
  5. Toss Wings in Sauce: Once wings are cooked through, toss them in about half of the hot honey butter sauce to coat evenly. For extra caramelization, you may broil them in the oven for a few minutes or air fry for an additional 2-3 minutes.
  6. Serve: Arrange the sauced wings on a platter, drizzle with additional hot honey sauce if desired, and garnish with chopped parsley and extra red pepper flakes. Serve immediately and enjoy!
  7. Storage: Store any leftover wings in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.

Notes

  • Ensure chicken wings reach an internal temperature of 165°F for safety.
  • Adjust the amount of honey in the sauce based on your sweetness preference.
  • Using an air fryer significantly reduces cooking time while keeping wings crispy.
  • For deeper flavor, marinate the wings with spices and oil for 1 hour before cooking if time allows.
  • Broiling or air frying the wings after tossing in sauce helps caramelize the glaze for an extra sticky texture.
